Writing is one of the ways in which people connect, helping them to transmit messages, explain, impart knowledge and above all, express themselves as individuals. I’ve always been interested in writing, particularly in the creative aspect of it; I feel that through the creation of stories and poems one not only displays one’s imagination, feelings and ideals, but also explores oneself and ones’ community. It is a personal experience in which the writer gets to know themselves with the text becoming an extension of the self.

I feel that through writing I understand the world and the people around me; writing allows me to explore these two aspects, to observe and consider them, so that then I can translate them into my life and my current understanding.

Writing has been my passion ever since I wrote my first story when I was eight years old; I don’t remember what it was about, but I do remember liking the idea of preserving my words and coming back to them later. It’s probably one of the reasons why I’ve always been drawn to reading. I didn’t continue writing in a while after that first story though; being the young girl that I was, I preferred playing with toys. Years later, when I was 12 years old, I picked up writing again, and experienced that exciting fulfillment writing still brings to me.  I haven’t stopped writing ever since.

I’ve always focused on fiction; as a writer, I’m interested in the creation and development of characters and the possibility of creating different worlds from ours. I love a story that challenges the boundaries of its protagonists as well as the minds of the readers; I strive for that in my writing. I enjoy historical fiction precisely because it’s set in a different time period that can be explored and the characters are different from us due to the changing culture. I’m also intrigued by the Young Adult genre partly because its characters are in that stage where their lives are moving into adulthood and I like to see them mature and attempt to reach that step.
